Fay Elgitha Owen Pannell was born October 13, 1916 to parents, Joseph Dolphus Owen and Elgitha Smith Owen and departed this life on August 7, 2016, at age 99 years, nine months, and twenty-four days. She was born in the small railroad town of Sayersville, Texas in Bastrop County, where her mother and father owned a general store. She married Harold Leland Pannell in 1941, and was widowed in 1963, and went on to operate the family heavy equipment business in Austin, work in newspapers and raise birds commercially for many years. In her later years, she enjoyed raising antique roses at her Bastrop County farm. She was active in and a driving force in the Oak Hill Cemetery Association for her whole life. She was a founding member of the Sayersville Historical Association and for over 33 years she chronicled Bastrop County History through the pages of the Sayersville Bulletin. She is survived by two children, Peggy Pannell Adams and Leland Ray Pannell. She is also survived by her beloved daughter-in-law, Jeanne Elleven Pannell and grandson William Leland Pannell and wife, Alexandra. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her four brothers: Andrew, Robert, Harry and Jack Owen.
