Estelle French

Estelle Marie French of Elgin, Texas peacefully passed away February 25, 2017, at the age of 75 years. Estelle was born the youngest of six children to Lucy Dean Turner French and Albert L. French on May 2, 1941, at the family home in the Mt. Pleasant Community in Bastrop County. Estelle Attended the rural country school in Mt. Pleasant Community until all the country schools consolidated with the Elgin Independent School District in 1951. Estelle graduated from Elgin High School with the class of ’60. Estelle remained with her mother and father in the country until high school, when she went to live with her sister, LaVerne in an upstairs apartment on Main Street. She was particularly excited about the move because she could practice playing basketball for the team; something that was impossible to do in the country.

Estelle was a dedicated advocate of humane animal treatment. She was an animal lover and rescued many strays from the alley ways of Elgin and give them a good home and life. Estelle never married, but remained close to her friends and family, especially her cats.

Estelle is preceded in death by both her parents; her brother Albert Ray French; and three sisters, LaVerne French Fields, Lorena French, and Ila Mae French Cox.

Estelle is survived by her sister, Dixie Dell French Martin; her dear friends, Molly Seggern and Dawn Sheets; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses, doctors, and hospice staff of Cottonwood Creek Nursing and Rehab Home in Cedar Park, that helped make Estelle comfortable in her last days.
