Edith Walla

Edith Loftin Walla, 81, of McDade, passed away Saturday morning, April 29, 2017. Edith was born in Eagar, Arizona on June 8, 1935, to Howard R. Loftin and Corinne Bell Wasson Loftin. She spent the majority of her younger years, attending schools in Ethel, Mississippi. In 1955, her cousin Raymond, while on leave from the Navy with his shipmate, Wilburn Walla, introduced Edith to his friend. The two instantly fell in love and were united in Holy Matrimony on January 26, 1956. The newlywed couple would travel to Hawaii, Texas, and California during Wilburn’s enlistment. While stationed in Corpus Christi, she gave birth to their first child, Richard. Once discharged from the Navy, they moved back to Texas, where they had another child, Lori, while living in Houston. From Houston, the four moved to Elgin, Texas. In 1967, the family moved to McDade, where their family grew to five with the birth of Howard. Edith worked hard raising her family for many years and eventually took a fulltime position with the Travis State School, where she worked for over 20 years. After she retired in 1995, she found her peace and quiet in a good book and crossword puzzles.

She is preceded in death by both her parents and her brother, Bob Loftin. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 62 years, Wilburn George Walla; her three children, Richard Walla and wife Christine of McDade; Lori and husband Darrell Stifflemire of Blue; and Robert Howard Walla and wife Nicole of Thrall; her six grandchildren, Gavin Walla, Holly Davis, Derek Stifflemire, Heather Stifflemire, Shelby Walla, and Alex Walla; and her six great-grandchildren, Kobie, Kenlie, Kelsie, Cadence, Bentlee, and KimberLynn.
