Earlene Whited Torres was born in Bullard, Texas, on November 10, 1929. The small family moved to Port Arthur, Texas, where her sister, Alice Faye and brother, Buddy were born. Her parents, W.T. “Shorty” Huff and Jessie Mae Hodge later moved to Austin, where baby sister Wanda was born.
Throughout Earlene’s life, she was an industrious person; she worked as a retail salesclerk, a nurses and aide for two doctor’s offices, drove an 18-wheeler truck, and ended her working career at HEB. Throughout that time, she was a mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend to many.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband, Robert Torress; her two daughters, Darlene Ollinger and Deborah Schooley; her two stepsons, Bennie and Kenneth Whited; her two step-daughters, Lucinda Vannoy and Becky Spaw; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Alice Faye Carroll and Wanda Kay Fogg; her brother, HB “Buddy” Smith; and numerous extended family and dear friends.
Family and Friends will gather graveside, to lay her to rest at the Young’s Prairie Cemetery, Friday, May 20th at 2:00 PM.
