John Hebel

September 17, 1940 — November 9, 2024

Elgin, Texas

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Frank Hebel, age 84, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2024. John was born on September 17, 1940, to Arthur Osgood Hebel and Viola Jane Smith at Seton Hospital in Austin, Texas.

The eldest of four siblings, John graduated from Austin High School with the Class of '58 and later went on to earn an Associate of Arts degree from Temple College. He was happily married to Louise Kathleen Jaksha for 55 wonderful years. Together they raised three children: David, Chris, and Cynthia.

John proudly served in the Army, after which he dedicated over 30 years to a career in retail grocery management, ultimately concluding his professional journey with the State of Texas as an accountant. Known for his love of cars, John spent his spare time tinkering with and restoring vintage vehicles. He also inherited a passion for carpentry from his grandfather, which he skillfully applied while building the home he shared with Kathy for the past 30 years. His commitment to community service was evident through his membership in the American Legion.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Viola. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy, their children David, Chris, and Cynthia, as well as his cherished grandchildren: Audrey, Laci, Brendan, Trenton, Micah, Grayson, and Kathryn. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Madden Lee.  John will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to family, and his many contributions to those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Graveside service will be held on Friday, November 15th at Pleasant Grove Cemetery at 2:00 PM with Brother Joshua Hausladen presiding.
