Dorothy Mae Ginsel, née Smith, was born April 4, 1920, in Giddings, Texas, and passed away Thursday, November 7, 2019, at the age of 99 years, seven months and three days. In 1949, she married Gilbert Ginsel of Elgin and soon began raising a family on their new farm near Manor, Texas. Gilbert died in 2014.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Gilda Ginsel and her husband, Bud Simons, Stan Ginsel and his wife, Cindye, Mark Ginsel and his wife, Laurie; her sister, Stella Wilbanks; along with nieces, nephews and their extended families. She was the proud matriarch of the William Lonnie Smith family, celebrating with those she loved most at their annual family reunions.
Dorothy was truly a pleasure to know. She was a refined country gal with numerous talents. She had a great love of music and singing. Her voice was angelic and natural. She taught herself to play piano and encouraged her children to follow their various musical passions. For years she enjoyed singing with her friends at the country jams in Tilmon and Harwood, her favorite places.
Above all, she was dedicated to her family. Everyone who knew her will tell you Dorothy was amusing and laid-back — unless you brought trouble to her nest! Perhaps her greatest achievement was how often she was considered to be a “second mom” by so many who adored her. She will be missed and never, ever forgotten.
Sail on sweet Angel, you’ve kept Heaven waiting long enough.
