Dorothy Dean Fowler was born on February 22, 1942, in Elgin, Texas to the late Louis and Lillie Mae Cathey. She departed this life on Tuesday afternoon, November 14, 2017. Dorothy attended Elgin Public Schools and was an academic scholar in Math and Spelling, where she frequently participated in the University Interscholastic League Academic Competitions. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School.
Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age in the Emmanuel Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) in Elgin, Texas. As she supported her church, she held the offices of church clerk, Deaconess, treasurer and served wherever she was needed. Years later, Dorothy became a member of the Alpha SDA Church in Austin where she served in many areas of ministry, specifically in Hospitality and Head Deaconess.
Dorothy was united in holy matrimony with Lorenzo Fowler and this union was blessed with a daughter, Pamela and two sons Lorenzo, Jr., and Darrell.
Dorothy began her life’s work at the Austin Laundry. Later moving to the Austin State School where she worked as a Direct Care giver, Seamstress and later the Clothing Buyer for her department. She worked in this capacity for more than twenty years before retiring in 2002.
To have known Dorothy, you would have known her to be a servant to many. Her caring, loving and compassionate spirit was evident in her concern for others. When her son left before her, she was always calm in the midst of a storm, saying “God is still God.” Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Lorenzo, Jr.; and six siblings, Norman, Edward Charles, Bobby Joe, Louis Charles, Martha Lynn, and Raymond.
Dorothy will be dearly missed by her husband of fifty-eight years, Lorenzo Fowler, Sr.; her daughter, Pamela and her husband, Roderick Dickerson of DeSoto; her son, Darrell Fowler and his wife, Debbie of Pflugerville. She was blessed to have Mark Penson and his wife, LaTusha of Cedar Hills as a part of her life and loved him as her own son; her granddaughter, Shouneille Moore; she was blessed to help raise twins, Brion and Briana Edmonds as her grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Johnique and Jaylah Thomas. Siblings; Elmer, (Catherine), Joyce, Twin Brother Willie Gene (Wynetta), Tommie Nell (Horace), Robbie (Jimmy), Shirley (Emzie), Bonnie and Ronald (Carolyn). She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, great- great nieces and nephews, special friends, Joy Bell Ray, Mertis Thomas, and Kaye Spencer; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
