Cruz Collaso Sr

Cruz Collaso, Sr., 94, retired farmer of Elgin, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, December 19, 2012. He was born in McDade to Amado Collaso and Guadalupe Limon Collaso on May 3, 1918. Cruz spent most of his life in Elgin, except for a few years in the Lubbock area farming. He worked most of his career as a farmer, then a landscaper at the University of Texas and for the Elgin School District. After retiring, he worked parttime at the Elgin Public Library. He is preceded in death by his wife Graviela Gabby Villereal Collaso.He is survived by his five sons, Johnny Collazo of Jasper, Cruz Collazo, Jr. of Bastrop, Adam Collazo of Austin, Eusebio Collazo of Baytown, and Augustin Collazo of Austin four daughters, Eva Maldonado of Elgin, Victoria Salinas of Elgin, Emma Villanueva of Slaton, and Janie Castillo of Austin three sisters, Sarah Gonzales of Houston, Guadalupe Cantu of Houston, and Maggie Beltran of Elgin and numerous grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.The family will receive guests at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Elgin from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and pray the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM Friday, December 21st. A funeral service will be conducted graveside at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 22nd with Father George officiating. Interment will follow at Elgin Latin Cemetery.
