Cornie “Daffy” Ockletree
Cornie Gene Ockletree , 60, of Austin, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023. Cornie was affectionately known as “Daffy”, he was born on July 17, 1962, in Austin to Charlie Mae Ockletree and Cornie Gene Morrison.
Daffy attended L. C. Anderson High School in Austin, Texas. After high school he picked up many trades from automotive work to general freight truck driving. He enjoyed fishing and cooking in addition to being a member of the Humpin People Motorcycle Club of Austin. He was an avid football fan that loved the Green Bay Packers and would take on any rival fan with “Post Game” discussions. He could be depended upon especially if fish was frying, Bar-B-Que and potatoes salad was involved. He wore many hats to include, son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, without a doubt he was loved by many.
Daffy was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Everea and Dave Ockletree: fraternal grandparents, Ola Mae and Willie Morrison, Sr.
Daffy leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Charlie Mae Ockletree; father, Cornie Morrison, siblings, Connie Hornsby (Kevin), Sharon Ockletree, Patrick Ockletree (Sandra), Cynthia Shaw, Malcolm Wheeler (Barbara), Lisa Morrison, Kimberly Pegues; children, Andre Cairo (Kimberlee), Justin Green (Shytavia), Jason Green, Roshanta Mitchell, Monica Mitchell; grandchildren, Dianah, Jalen, Aniyah, Treyson, Z’Ahviaha, Lyric, Daemari, and Marvin; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Cornie will lie in state at Elgin Funeral Home on Friday, March 17th, from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Family and friends will gather for a Visitation at Mount Carmel Baptist Church on Saturday, March 18th from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 PM with son, Reverend Justin Green, Eulogist and Officiant. Serving as Pallbearers, Jamaar Griffith, Hasaan Griffith, Keddrick Hornsby, Roy L. Mack, Marcus Haywood, and Tony Brown, Jr.. Honorary Pallbearers, Larry C. Ockletree, Sr., and Chester Williams. Inurnment will be private.
