Grandma Briseno
Consuelo Mejia Briseno, 101, of Manor, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 10, 2022. She was born on March 24, 1921, on Gregg’s Plantation in Pflugerville, Texas to parents, Patricia and Santiago Mejia. The family moved to Manor in 1928, when she was seven years old.
On October 24, 1951, she married Felipe Andrada Briseno, and the couple raised three children, four foster sons, and helped raise 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Consuelo enjoyed being a home-maker and care-taker. She would often tell stories of riding a horse and buggy with her grandma from Gregg’s Plantation to Manor to deliver food, medicines, and supplies to those in need. Her house was always open; many family and friends were welcomed with open arms to live with her and be cared for throughout the years.
Consuelo enjoyed cleaning and taking care of her yard, especially her fruit trees and gorgeous flowers. She would take a full day to walk down to the Manor City Cemetery half a mile away, carrying a rake, a hoe, and a trash bag, keeping all the grave sites beautiful. You could never find her laying down or resting. It seemed she was in the kitchen from early morning to late evening cleaning and preparing meals for everyone she knew. Her favorite thing to do was to sit on the front porch visiting with family and friends and she was known for being on the neighborhood watch. Family often wondered how she could never leave the porch but still know everything going on in Manor. The conversations and love she gave will live in our hearts forever.
Consuelo was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Felipe Briseno; her mother, Patricia Mejia-Costilla; father, Santiago Mejia; stepfather, Fredrico Costilla; sisters, Francis Lara and Louisa Mejia, step-brothers, Albert Costilla, Sr. and Frank Costilla; son, Gilbert Briseno, Sr., foster son Humbert Rocha; and her great-grandbabies, KeyAndre and KeyAndra Davis.
Consuelo is survived by her daughter, Yolanda and husband Luis Suarez; son, Michael Briseno and wife Pam; daughter-in-law, Janie Briseno; foster sons Roy, Ricardo and Harvey Rocha; grandchildren, Gilbert Jr., Ginny, Patricia and husband Germaine, Denise and husband Daniel, Phillip and wife Michelle, Sandra and husband Shredick, Luis and wife Rene, Gabriel and wife Chrystal, Brenda and husband Wesley, Michael, Jr., and Dovie Mae; great-grandchildren Bryce, Hailey, Joseph, Breana, Jaylen, Taya, Treydon, Jordan, Brianna, Daniel, Isabella, Juliana, Emily, Lucas, Joshlyn, Darius, Alijay, Aleseyona, Barret, Bradie, Holden, Granger, Decker, Stormy, Loren, Bailey, Beau, and Clay; great-great grandchildren, Christian and Adrian; as well as several nieces, nephews, and dear friends
