Cody Lawry Hopkins, 13, of McDade, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016, after a courageous and hard fought battle with the West Nile virus. Cody was born on May 7, 2003 in Boones, Iowa and attended McDade Junior High School. He was only a 7th grader, yet more sagacious than most! Cody had a huge thirst for the Rodeo world and looked forward to every Thursday and Saturday night, where he would satiate that thirst on the back of the bull. He was naturally athletic and a lover of all sports - any ball he could get his hands on he fell in love with.
He is survived by both his mother and father, Lacey Hopkins and Greg Lashmet; his maternal grandparents, Johnny and Rosalee Hopkins; his paternal grandparents, Less and Sandy Clements; his two uncles, Clint Hopkins, Clint Ledbetter; his two aunts, Jessica Hopkins and Nikki Ledbetter; and extended family and many dear friends. Cody was undoubtedly sent by God and has touched so many lives across this nation.
A Memorial Service, celebrating Cody’s Life, will be conducted at the Lost Pines Cowboy Church of Elgin on Saturday, October 15th at 11:00 AM with Reverend Greg Long officiating. Cody’s Final Ride will be conducted at the Circleville Store in Taylor on Sunday, October 16th at 2:00 PM. FLY HIGH COWBOY!
