Clovis Treadwell

November 14, 1935 — January 23, 2019

Clovis was born in Lubbock, the second of three children to Clyde and Beth Treadwell.  Clovis spent his early childhood traveling Texas, while his father supervised road construction projects.  He attended eight different schools by the third grade; at which time they finally settled in Austin.  He graduated from the original Austin High in 1953.  After graduation, he worked with his dad doing road construction up until he enlisted in the United States Air Force on February 12, 1954.  Early in Clovis’ Air Force career, he met Lynne Slayman, while stationed at Luke AFB in Phoenix, AZ.  They were married in Las Vegas on February 19, 1958. The first few years of their marriage were spent in France, where their first son, Kenneth was born. After the young family was stationed stateside in California, their next son, Robert was born and a couple of years later, their daughter, Dana. A few years later, while stationed in Oklahoma, their youngest daughter, Dawn was born. As a family, they spent considerable time in Phoenix and Pine, AZ with Lynne’s parents and in Elgin, TX on the Treadwell farm.

During his 20-year military career, he served as a flight-line operations and airport control operator, supporting pilots from various countries.  Duties varied from filing flight plans, providing weather reports, and supporting the officers with other aspects of base operations at Luke AFB, AZ; Chateauroux AB, France; Travis AFB, CA; Tule AB, Greenland; Oklahoma AFS, OK; Da Nang AB, Vietnam; Ft. Riley, KS; and Ellington AFB, Houston, TX.  Clovis retired as a Master Sergeant from the USAF on November 1, 1974.  His final duty assignment was as a recruiter in Houston, Texas.  After retiring, he and Lynne moved to Elgin, and began working for Centex Plating, delivering new and repaired chromed vehicle bumpers and other parts to automobile repair shops.  In time, he was promoted to operations manager until he retired at 62.  After his second retirement, he traveled extensively in the United States and loved spending time with his family; eventually moving to Pflugerville, in 2004.

Clovis’ greatest passion was amateur bowling, where he was a member of numerous bowling leagues for over 60 years.  He was a phenomenal bowler, who bowled at least one perfect 300 game, and was league champion on many occasions.  He organized and oversaw many different leagues, was Secretary and Tournament Director for the Capital City Area Senior Bowling Council and the Austin Bowling Association, and served as Director on the Greater Austin Area USBC Association.

He is preceded in death by both his parents, Clyde Alfred Treadwell and Beth Carmel Wilson Treadwell; his brother Alfred; sister, Mary Beth; and his niece, Kathy.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lynne; and their four children, Ken Treadwell and wife Donna,  Robert Treadwell and wife Katherine, Dana and husband Dwight Shoulders; and Dawn and husband Rodney Austin; nine grandchildren, Lizzy, Kathryn, Daryl, Sara, Nicole, Michelle, William, Brandy, and Erica; 12 great-grandchildren; his nieces, Joyce Mann Veillon and Rodie Slayman Reichard; his nephews, Steven Mann and Kenneth Slayman; brother-in-law, Jerry Mann; and many dear friends and bowling buddies.
