Cleo was born April 9, 1914 in Stephenville, Texas the second youngest of nine children, four brothers and four sisters, to Hensley and Lenora Kay. She was born into a God loving, hard working farming family in the community of Selden, a few miles south of Stephenville. At the age of 19 years, she met the love of her life, J. Z. Hattox and united in marriage on June 2, 1934. After living in several communities in Oklahoma and Texas, they settled in Elgin, Texas in 1943, where J. Z became the Vocational Agriculture teacher at Elgin High School. During their marriage, Cleo and J. Z. were blessed with two children, Gene D. and Lenora May. Cleo and J. Z. lived in Elgin until his death in 1993, when she went to live with her daughter, Lenora and her family in Austin, Texas. She returned to Elgin with her daughter and husband in 1998 and lived there until 2007, when they moved to Gatesville, Texas, where she lived the remainder of her life. Cleo committed her entire life to her family. She lived a long and full life filled with the love and support of a large family and many friends.
