Claude Walters Jr

October 3, 1926 — November 8, 2014

As evening set on November 8, 2014, Claude M. Walters gave up his battle with cancer and its complications to ascend into Heaven. Claude was born on October 3, 1926 to Claude Melvin Walters and Cecelia Lewis Walters in Austin, Texas. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the Army at Fort Sam Houston and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. His military service also included tours in Japan and Guam. Upon his discharge, Claude worked construction and followed the rodeo circuit. Eventually he returned to the Austin Area where he began working for the Travis State School as a meat cutter. He quickly transferred into building maintenance and construction where he was a heavy equipment operator. On January 1, 1952, Claude married Loraine Katherine Pruett and together they raised 2 sons and a daughter. Claude and Loraine moved their family to the Moonbreak Community in 1967. Here, he could enjoy his love of the outdoors. At every opportunity, he was camping on the river bank with family and friends fishing, running trot lines, and playing dominoes in the wait time. He raised and ran coon dogs for hunting. Many evenings were spent listening for their baying signal. Claude was always a bit of a prankster and enjoyed sharing a laugh, story, and a cup of coffee with everyone. He was always helping those in his community. To most, he was Mr. Fix It and had that knack for being able to fix what others couldnt or wouldnt. In his later years, he returned to work for the City of Elgin as a heavy equipment operator and then working in the same capacity for David Samuelson after his retirement. He and his son Sidney ran a business together from their home. Claude was preceded in death by his wife, Loraine Pruett Walters parents, Claude Melvin and Cecelia Lewis Walters his brothers, Roy, Lawrence, Leslie, Cotton, Vincent. He is survived by his son, Sidney Walters and wife Debbie of Elgin daughter, Delphia Brewer and husband Garrett of Kempner son, Ray Walters of Llano grandchildren, Allen Meyer, David Meyer, James Meyer and wife Brooke Brandon Walters Robert Walters Shirley Walters, Brandy Walters, and Brandon Walters greatgrandchild Brylee Meyer. His happy, helpful, smiling personality will be missed by all who knew him.
