Charles William Kastner, 93, of Austin, joined our Beloved Father on the evening of August 6, 2020, surrounded by loved ones. Charles was born in Elgin, Texas, to Henrietta Liesman Kastner and Martin Kastner, Sr. on February 6,1927.
Charles joined the Navy in 1952 in San Francisco and served honorably as a Lieutenant. After his military service, he moved back to Texas and attended Southwest Texas University, then transferred to Georgia Institute of Technology, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, with Highest Honors. He culminated his education by receiving a Master of Science in Mathematics at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
Charles worked hard and excelled in everything he became involved with. He spent over 15 years with IBM until he retired. While at IBM, Charles created a program used to transfer data from any system, which is still being used today, coined the "Kastner Dump." He was a real estate broker, active in the Veterans Administration and Tax Assessors Office. He loved astronomy and mathematics. He was a proud and staunch Conservative. He loved playing Bridge, poker, dominoes, golf, and swimming (the colder the water, the better).
His family wants to extend our gratitude to all the exceptional people at Hospice - Austin, as well as the neighbors that were so caring and compassionate.
Charles is preceded in death by both his parents; his first wife, Myrtle Garner; his daughter, Judy Woods; and his siblings, Kathrine Wolf, Martin, Jr., and Joe Lee
Charles is survived by his daughter, Linda and husband Angel Alvarez; his son, Mark Kastner and wife Melinda; his son-in-las Brad Woods; his grandchildren, Byron, Adam, Marcus, McKenzie, Selena, Bailey, and Kendall; his great-grandchildren, Kassidy and Brandon; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Charles dedicated his life to his family. He had a quiet and unassuming personality, which endeared him to all he met. He greeted everyone with a friendly and genuine smile, which will forever be missed.
Funeral Services, with Military Honors, will be conudcted graveside at the McDade Cemetery, Monday, August 10th at 10:00 AM with the Reverend, Mark Nygard presiding.
