Charles Calhoun passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014 with his wife, son, daughter, dad and brothers by his side at Seton Medical Center in Austin, TX. Charles was born on October 2, 1952 at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, TX to John C Calhoun and Annie Calhoun. Charles is preceded in death by his Mother, Annie Calhoun Brothers, Shorty and Willie Calhoun and Sister, Barbara Ellis. He is survived by his dad, John C Calhoun of Smithville, Texas wife, Gail Calhoun of Elgin, Texas son, Jeffrey Allen Calhoun and wife Tamara Calhoun of Elgin, Texas daughter, Tammy Michele Davis and husband Danny Davis of Smithville, Texas and four granddaughters, Candice and Kelsea Calhoun, Jessi and Colbi Davis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Charles always had a huge heart for helping others, whether it was his family, friends or even strangersCharles loved to give and make people happy He put everyone first even before himself. Charles thought the world of his four Granddaughters, Candice, 14 Kelsea, 10 Jessi, 5 and Colbi, 2. He always bragged to anyone he met about his girls. He was a very proud Papa to say the least. Charles was an awesome Daddy He did everything he could for his two children, Jeff, 41, and Tammy, 35. When Jeff and Tammy were children, he taught them how to fish, hunt and drive, along with many other things that good Daddys do. When Jeff was about 3 years old, Charles taught him how to swing a rope. Together, they entered a lot of ropings as heading and healing partners. Charles and his Son spent a lot of time together coon hunting and deer hunting. He always made time to be available for his kids. From tball to pitch softball in college, Charles was there at every game and tournament watching Tammy play. He coached her teams and encouraged her to be better and better. Charles was always very proud of his kids. Gail was Charles life His lifelong goal was to make his her happy. With his own hands and with the help of his Dad and Brothers, they built three custom homes for Gail. He wanted to give Gail the world and he always gave her his very . Charles had a heart of gold and no matter what it was that he was doinghe gave it his all. Charles was a Carpenter by trade. He worked for Travis State School as a Ground Maintenance Supervisor for 10 years. He also was a custom homebuilder and built, owned operated Twin Creek Grocery. Charles was an avid coon hunter. He steer roped, loved to fish and hunt and the last 14 years, he raised cattle and bailed hay. Charles graduated from Manor High School in 1971 then on October 2 of the same year, he married Gail Kirkland Calhoun.In Lieu of flowers a Memorial Fund in Honor of Charles Calhoun has been set up at First National Bank of Bastrop. Donations can be accepted at any location: Elgin, Cedar Creek, Smithville, Bastrop. The family would also like for everyone, following the burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, to please join them for fellowship and food at the Lost Pines Cowboy Church.
