Chandra Christine Volkmar was born in Wheat Ridge, Colorado on September 5, 1972, and passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Savior on Monday morning, August 9th, 2021. Her early childhood was spent on Marine Corps bases and finally in Greenville, Illinois. Growing up on her Grandfather John’s farm, she was surrounded by animals of all kinds, horses, cows, cat, dogs, chickens, and ducks. It’s because of this Chandra had a life-long love for animals and always dreamt of having such a place for her own.
Before her time in Elgin, Chandra graduated high school in Greenville, moving on to California in the early 90’s, where she took up various hobbies such as motorcycle racing, boating, and a passion for music that rivaled most folk. No music was uninteresting to Chandra, from Willie Nelson, Pearl Jam, Broadway musicals, even Opera by Mozart - she knew and sang it all in a beautiful, crystal-clear voice.
Chandra’s life then took her to Austin with a job at Apple Computer like many in her family. In those early years in Austin, she was a Roller-Girl for the Honky Tonk Heartbreakers and then an competed as an amateur kickboxer. She traveled abroad extensively for work, helping set up call-centers for Apple, and even future Apple Stores… for a time she even lived in London, England.
But her heart was always in Texas, and eventually she found a track of land, where she would adopt, love and care for every animal that needed a home.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sahana and Sara; her fiancé, Robert Mendieta; both her parents, Linda Clark and Ronald Volkmar; her brothers, Ronny and David Volkmar, and numerous extended family and dear friends. We love you Chandra, ride on until the morning comes.
