On the day of April 8, 1952 in the small town of Taylor, Texas, Virges Lee Collins, Sr. and Willie Pearl Collins were blessed with a bouncing baby boy. This gift from God was given the nameCarl Wayne Collins.He was the third of nine children born to this union. He grew up in Elgin, attending Booker T, Washington School and graduated from Elgin High School in 1970. At an early age, Carl accepted Christ in his life and was baptized at Lakeview Baptist Church of Elgin, by the late Reverend Lee Collins. After graduation, Carl moved to Houston, Texas. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Gail Idlebird. This union was blessed with three children. Carl worshiped the Lord at Northwest Community Baptist Church, Pastor James Dixon.Carl was an avid sports fan and found pleasure in watching and attending basketball and football games as well as traveling with his friend, Jo. He loved working in his yard and keeping his vehicles clean. Carl exemplified what it meant to be a God fearing man for he had a big heart, caring spirit and a desire to take care of everyone. He enjoyed life and loved people especially his family. All that knew him will always remember that infectious laugh.During the course of his life, Carl worked for United Parcel Service (UPS) and retired. He also enjoyed his time as a limousine driver.Carl"s heavenly departure was on Saturday, March 14, 2015 in Houston, Texas, and his victory with God began. Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Virges and Willie Pearl Collins. Carl Wayne leaves to cherish his memories, his children. Nicole Nolan, Christopher Collins, Corey Collins, Chanel Collins, DeVincent Idlebird, Byron Campbell (who he helped raise); god daughter, Nitashia Jackson; five sisters, Gloria Thomas, Carolyn and husband Reverend Aubrey Jackson, Kathleen and husband Bruce Chatmon, Nancy and husband Michael Robinson, and Beverly Collins-Moore; three brothers, Virges Collins, Jr. and wife, Esteen, Dwayne Collins and wife, Hattie, and Derrick Collins and wife, Denise; three grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, relative and friends. Carl also leaves a special friend, Jo Patterson.
