Buddy Sam Scott of Elgin, Texas passed away on June 28, 2013. He was born on July 26, 1931 in Thornton, Texas to parents Sam B. and Ida B. Scott, and moved to Elgin, Texas in 1941. Buddy was an outstanding athlete at Elgin High School lettering in football, baseball and track for the Wildcats. After graduation in 1951, he enlisted in the military and proudly served his country including one year of combat, firing mortars in Korea with the H31 Marines. After marrying Vera Gustafson, they moved to Austin in 1954 where Buddy was employed by the Texas State Board of Insurance and started their family. He enjoyed coaching youth baseball at Delwood Optimist and Sunrise Optimist, and supporting the Reagan Raiders football team during their state championship years in the 1960s and 1970s. He retired from the State Board of Insurance in 1984 after nearly 28 years. Shortly after, Buddy and Vera moved back to Elgin where he resided until his death. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vera Gustafson Scott two sons, Buddy M. Scott and wife Karen of Round Rock, son Mark Scott of Austin daughter, Rebecca Sue Tarrant of China Spring four grandchildren, Jennifer Scott, Ryan Scott, Rachel Scott, and April Hanna and husband Jack Hanna five greatgrandchildren, Meagan Acker, Jace Hanna, Cade Hanna, Casey Hanna, and Maci Hanna one sister, Ora Stifflemire of Blue, Texas.
