Aurora Carrillo

Aurora Nunez Carrillo, 90, of Elgin, passed away Sunday afternoon, August 27, 2017. Aurora was born the first of six children to Ysabell Nunez and Virginia Pina Nunez on January 29, 1927. A life-long resident of Elgin, she grew up and attended schools in Elgin, Texas. She worked at the Sunset Inn, then as a waitress for El Chico and Las Casas in Austin, and spent many years with the University of Texas until she retired to take care of her husband in 2009. Aurora met Frank Carrillo, in 1948, when he was stationed at Camp Swift. The two were instantly in love and were united in Holy Matrimony on Christmas that year. “The best Christmas gift she ever had.” Aurora loved her family and her church.

She is preceded in death by both her parents; her husband Frank Carrillo; her three daughters, Rita Thomas, Esmeralda Carrillo, and Roselinda Colin; her grandson, Joel Carrillo; her three sisters, Anita, Margaret, and Sophie.

Aurora’s legacy will be cherished by her two children, Frank Carrillo and Israel Carrillo; her 11 grandchildren, Richard, Stephanie, Israel Jr., Kristen, Estevan, Josh, Frankie Jr., Tomazina, Jacob, and Rebecca; her six great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Billie Jonse and Beatrice Kerrigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed, continued to be loved and appreciated for all of the sacrifices that she made for her family over the years.

The family will receive guests at the Elgin Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 29th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be conducted at the Elgin Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 30th at 10:00 AM with Pastor Idalia Orocio officiating. Interment will follow at the Elgin Latin Cemetery.
