Audrey Hicks

Audrey Mae Hicks, 85, passed away on Monday morning, March 5, 2018. Audrey was born, the eighth of twelve children, to Frank and Bessie Edwards Farris, in the Oak Hill Community of Bastrop County, on April 18, 1933. On May 7, 1949, she married George Hicks and to this union, three children were born; Jerry, Kenneth, and Jane. Audrey worked for over 33 years at the Elgin Golden Years Nursing Home. She trained several staff whom are still currently employed at the now Elgin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. After her husband, George passed away in February of 1993, she moved to Elgin to be closer to her work. Audrey prided herself in her garden and beautiful flowers. She also loved to bake, and excelled in her peach cobblers, buttermilk pound cakes, and coconut pies. Due to her increasing health issues in 2015, she moved into the home of her daughter, Jane and her husband, Philip, where she enjoyed their time together and playing dominoes with her great-grandsons.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her three children, Jerry and wife Linda of McDade, Kenneth and wife Darlia of Ballinger, and Jane and husband Philip of Bastrop; eight grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clyde Farris of McDade and Frank Farris of San Antonio; and many dear, life-long friends.

The family will receive guests at the Elgin Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 7th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be conducted at the Elgin Funeral Home of Thursday, March 8th at 1:00 PM with Reverend Ronnie Gregory Officiating. Interment will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Bastrop County. After services, family and friends will gather at the Faith Lutheran Church of McDade for repast.
