Alma Ann Schmidt, of Elgin, Texas, gracefully departed this world on February 7, 2025, at the remarkable age of 95. Her peaceful passing leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience.
Born in 1929, in the heart of Elgin, Alma was the youngest of seven children born to Harvey and Carrie Scott. Her journey through life was brightly illuminated by the warmth of family and the joy she found in her relationships. In June of 1948, Alma married William “Bill” Schmidt, and together they shared five loving decades until his passing in 1998. Their bond was one built on mutual respect and unwavering support, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew them.
Alma dedicated 22 years to serving at the Austin State Hospital, where she meticulously handled medical records, making a difference in the lives of many. Following the joyful years spent raising her daughters in Austin, Alma and Bill returned to Elgin, where they embraced a fulfilling life on their farm. They were known for their adventurous spirit, frequently traveling and cultivating friendships, always shining on the dance floor with their graceful movements.
In addition to Bill, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Thomas Ries; her beloved parents, and her five sisters, Jewel Anderson, Mary Bryan, Lucille Jones, Dixie Wilson, Ruth Ell Bennett; and her brother, Ollie Scott.
Alma is survived by her daughters, Linda Ann Jackson and Sheila and husband David Harrison. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Anthony Trent Jackson and his wife Patty, Sissie Ann Jackson, and Justin Wesley Moore and his wife Katelin; her step-grandchildren, Julie Lee, Jenny De La Rosa and her husband Erik, and Marc Harrison; her great-grandchildren, Marissa and husband Anthony Lopez, Nicole, Hannah, Eric, and Bobby Montoya, Chris Jackson and wife Hunter, Madison Leigh and William Wesley Moore, who brought immense joy to her life; her step-great-grandchildren, Avery, Emerson and Grant Lee, Eva, Lillian, and Eleanor De La Rosa; her great-great-grandchildren, Jace Lopez, Kamyrn and Dawson Jackson. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. As well as her loyal feline companion, Boots. Alma held a special place in her heart as a loving Godmother to Brenda Anderson Langley, embodying the spirit of kindness and mentorship throughout her life. Alma Ann Schmidt lives on in the hearts of her family, woven into the very fabric of their lives and memories, and her legacy will continue to inspire and nurture generations to come.
Family and Friends will gather for Visitation, at Elgin Funeral Home, Sunday, February 16th from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM. A Celebration of Alma's Life will be conducted at St. Peters Lutheran Church of Elgin, Monday, February 17th at 1:30 PM. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden Capital Park of Pflugerville. Family and Friends are invited to share memories and fellowship during repast, prior to funeral services.
Serving with Grace and Honor as Pallbearers are Trent Jackson, Christopher Jackson, Justin Moore, Marc Harrison, David Harrison, and Werner Schmidt, Jr., with Honorary Pallbearers John Langley, Garrett Langley, Aaron Langley, and Patrick Maass.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contribution can be made in Alma's Memory to St. Peters Lutheran Church in Elgin, Texas and Hospice Austin Christopher House, reflecting Alma's devotion to her community and support for those in need.
