Allan Ray Miller, 89, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, in McDade, Texas. He was born on September 6, 1934, in San Augustine County, Texas to his late parents, William and Dillie Powell Miller. Allan spent most of his childhood in East Texas around San Augustine County before moving to Austin where he attended high school. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably as a baker.
During his time in the Navy, Allan married his sweetheart Alyce Louise Hogan on July 8th, 1954, in Austin, Texas. They were blessed with a son who was born during a stay in Ohio on November 10th, 1957. Shortly after their son's birth, the family returned to Austin and settled on East Elliot Street.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Allan pursued a career as a surveyor and worked throughout the state of Texas until his retirement. A gifted woodworker and architect with an eye for detail, he also excelled in macrame and leatherworking later in life.
Allan is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alyce Louise Hogan Miller; his only son, Mark Allan Miller; his sister, Wilma Miller Billet; and brother, James Miller.
He is survived by his younger brother, Milton Miller; daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Vega; granddaughters Robin and Heather Miller; as well as great-grandson, Emet Miller-Hays; and numerous extended family and dear friends.
Allan Ray Miller will be remembered fondly for being loved and respected by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will lie in state at Elgin Funeral Home, Wednesday, January 24th from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Graveside services will take place at Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery on Thursday, January 25th at 11:00 AM.
