Alene “Tudy” Lemons-E was born on January 27, 1956 in Friona, Texas to proud parents Levy and Edna MaeDell (Mayse) Lemons. She was the youngest of six children. She was the baby girl – “Baby Tudy”. Her paternal grandparents were James “Junie” and Ida Lemons. Her maternal grandparents were Alene “Cootie” (Davis) Mayse and Ell Mayse. Alene was named after her maternal grandmother.
Alene confessed her faith in Christ at an early age in the Church of Christ in Pueblo, Colorado.
Alene attended Bradford Elementary, Risley Junior High, and East High School in Colorado. She attended the University of Colorado and then transferred to Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1981.
Alene worked for the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) as a Network Specialist III until she retired in 2012. Upon retiring she took a hiatus from working so she could spend time with her grand kids. After all were old enough to attend school she returned to worked for the City of Austin.
Alene was an avid reader and writer. She enjoyed her personal library of books and watching TV Westerns.
On Saturday, March 13, 2021 Alene departed this life. She was preceded in death by her parents Levy and Edna MaeDell (Mayse) Lemons and brothers, Emeral (Fletchie) Lemear, Leo (Tight) Lemons and Howard (Lee Cee) Lemons.
Alene leaves to cherish her memory: daughter Tasha (Lemons) McBride and beloved son-in-law Steve McBride; two sisters– Mozell Roper of Charleston, SC, Willie Ruth Jones of Elkhart, IN; three grandchildren – DaMante, Krianne, and Journey McBride and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Alene Lemons–Ekwensi, 65, of Pflugerville, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021. She will lie in state at Elgin Funeral Home, Friday, March 19th from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Private Home-Going Celebration will be conducted at Elgin Funeral Home, under the auspices of Davilla Church of Christ. She will be laid to rest at the Davilla Cemetery.
