Gilbert Rodriguez, Jr.

Gilbert Rodriguez, Jr. of Smithville, Texas, entered Heaven’s gates on Saturday, December 10, 2022, with his family at his bedside.

Gilbert was born on December 15, 1956, in San Antonio, Texas to Gilbert Rodriguez and Martha Torres Rodriguez.  He grew up in the small community of Elgin, Texas, attending the public schools of the county and graduated from Elgin High School. He accepted Christ at an early age, understanding the loved he had for God and the love God has for him.  He held on to his faith and served the Lord faithfully.

Gilbert was hard a working man, showed compassion and love toward everyone, never meeting a stranger.  He worked in maintenance, at the University of Texas and a learned a work skilled at the Elgin Brick Yard.

Gilbert was a man full of integrity and was always there for family and friends.  He enjoyed just sitting around and talking, especially bragging on the Dallas Cowboys.  He was known to do daily ‘well checks’, which will be greatly missed. He was the true definition of unconditional love.

Gilbert was a loving and caring person, to his love, Shirley and a good Dad to her children and a great Gilly to all the grand kids.

As the gates of Heaven open, Gilbert will join his father, Gilbert Rodriguez, Sr., a niece, Ana Maria Rodriguez Vasquez and his love, Shirley.

Gilbert leaves in God’s hands to cherish his memories, his Mother, Martha Torres Rodriguez; brothers, Dan Rodriguez and Samuel Rodriguez; two sisters, Joanna Rodriguez (Luis Retama) and Debra Rodriguez (David Rodriguez); his bonus daughter, Cassandra (Thomas Chandler), four grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and host of nephews, nieces and other family members and friends.

Gilbert will be truly missed by many, but the Lord loved him more…Fly High!!!

Gilbert Rodriguez, 65, of Smithville, passed away surrounded by family Saturday morning, December 10, 2022.  He will lie in state at Elgin Funeral Home Saturday, December 17th from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.  A Home-Going Celebration will be held at 11:00 AM.  Interment will follow at Sayers Cemetery.
